CMJ supports Oxfam’s India Covid-19 Appeal

The Company of Master Jewellers (CMJ) has launched a fundraising appeal to raise money for Oxfam’s India Covid-19 Appeal.

Michael Aldridge, Chairman of the CMJ, said: “Like many of us, I have watched the recent news in horror and disbelief at the devastating impact that Covid-19 is having across India. The sight of people dying in the streets as the health system is overwhelmed with cases has led me to ask myself what we as a group can do to help.

“Oxfam is working with communities and hospitals across the country, and by setting up a page to donate to them, we know that funds raised are going straight to those who need it most. We have set an ambitious target but we know how generous our industry can be, and we hope that they will support this very worthy cause. Whatever anyone can give will make a difference.”

Oxfam has been working with the poorest communities in India for 70 years. Today it is working with the Indian government to distribute PPE to frontline health workers. It is also helping to fund oxygen cylinders and other equipment for hospitals and health centres. Oxfam is also helping on a community level, providing food, hygiene kits and handwashing facilities to the poorest and most vulnerable families.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so via the CMJ’s JustGiving page.
