Colour Friday – the independent retailer’s alternative to Black Friday

Are you sick of Black Friday promotions getting earlier and earlier, bombarding customers with deals, offers and discounts that you simply can’t or don’t want to compete with? For the past few years, many small businesses on the high street have been swapping Black Friday for Colour Friday, which provides FREE assets, artwork and more to champion independent retailers.

What started as a small stand against the chaos, has grown into a nationwide celebration of creativity, colour and community — everything brilliant businesses like yours bring to our high streets, homes and hearts.

And this year, the campaign, which will centre around 28 November 2025, is bigger, bolder and brighter than ever!

Apply for your FREE Colour Friday Celebration Kit today – the number of kits available is limited and successful applicants will be notified by 24 November. The promotional pack is bursting with everything you need to spread the word and celebrate in style, and has been created with its amazing Colour Friday campaign artist, Rebecca Strickson!

  • High street shops will receive a beautiful window poster with space to write your own message of thanks to customers or share how you’re taking part, an Independently Owned & Operated window sticker, biodegradable Colour Friday balloons, and a “This Christmas, Shop Small” badge to wear with pride.
  • Small businesses and makers will get the official Colour Friday artwork to share, colourful stickers, the “This Christmas, Shop Small” badge and something for a spot of guerrilla marketing to brighten up your local area or delivery parcels.

Why Support Colour Friday?

  • The UK is expected to spend £3.9bn on Black Friday this year, while a million small businesses fear closure.
  • If people spend £10 at a local independent shop, it can result in up to £50 more being recirculated in the local economy than if £10 was spent at a chain (because business owners are more likely to spend their money locally).
  • Over a third of people asked said they love independent businesses for their remarkable creativity — especially their originality, imagination and care.

So here’s your Colour Friday brief: make the UK fall in love with shopping small!

Because imagine if, on Colour Friday, it took over social media? Imagine if there was colour everywhere: your windows, your feeds, your stories, your packaging. Paint it, post it, tag it with #ColourFriday, share it and let’s remind everyone of our small business brilliance! Together, we can turn the UK’s biggest shopping week into the biggest celebration of independents our nation has ever seen!
