The Accounts team is at the heart of the Company of Master Jewellers. A team of just three – Angela, Lorraine and Sharon (left to right on images below) – they are kept extremely busy.
What do you do at the CMJ and how long have you worked there?
Between the three of us, we have worked at the CMJ for 50 years, and we have experience beyond that working in banking, solicitors, finance and local councils.
We are responsible for all things accounting: on a day-to-day basis. Sharon ensures that the invoices and credits are processed daily, which then automatically upload onto our document portal allowing easy access for the retailer. Angela and Lorraine have daily and monthly accounting responsibilities, including credit control, purchase ledger, supplier payments, retailer and supplier reconcilations, banking, month end and other accounting procedures. All this involves us working to strict deadlines. Our attention to detail can identify anomalies and changes in behavioural pattern. We also maintain both the retailer and supplier accounts, resolving any issues promptly to maintain a good working relationship between both retailer and supplier.
We also produce expenditure reports in order to monitor member performance; we have our fingers on the pulse of which brands are doing well and can help identify trends and valuable industry insights.
When a new member joins the group, we offer an introductory welcome call to run through the accounting process and to introduce ourselves as a key person to contact with any accounts questions.
What accounting benefits does a retailer get from being part of the CMJ?
Every retailer member benefits from an innovative invoicing system that consolidates your payments into our single point of invoicing, generating one monthly statement, making for a more streamlined and simplified way of working. All invoices and monthly statements are uploaded onto a documents account portal for members to access remotely.
Because we have so much experience between us and have been with the company for many years, we have developed a great working relationship with our members and respect them as independent jewellers as well as promoting the benefits of being part of the group.
We see ourselves as an extended part of your business.
Providing one monthly consolidated statement makes invoicing easy for our retailers. This is just one of the many benefits of being a retail member of the CMJ, you can visit our website to check out the full list of benefits.
